About Me!

I am currently teaching Foods I and Teen Living at North Davidson High School.  I have also achieved National Board Certification and am nearly completed with my Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from High Point University.

The main objective of my blog is to educate parents, fellow educators, and administrators about the curricular goldmine that can be found integrating food into their curriculum.  Oftentimes, Family and Consumer Sciences education, and more specifically, foods education is lassoed into the belief that "home economics education" is meant to teach girls how to be good wives and mothers.  I feel like I spend the better part of open houses and curriculum fairs defending and defining what I do.  No, I will not teach your daughter how to be a housewife, but I will teach your daughter and your son how we use math, literacy, science, and cultural appreciation everyday in my class.  I also hope that my blog can also be a platform to educate fellow teachers and education professionals on how they can use food to teach in their classrooms and break preconceived notions and stereotypes of Family and Consumer Sciences.
